Configure File Printers
File-based printers (such as Thermo and SlideMate printers) use template files to control the output format. Templates support variable substitution, allowing you to customize exactly what information appears on cassette and slide labels.
Quick Start
- Create a template file in
%ProgramData%\Fortelinea\Prima\Workstations\PrinterTemplates\ - Name the file to match your printer name (e.g.,
MyPrinter.txt) - Add variables like
{SurgicalNumber}and{PatientName:Last} - The printer will use your template(s) for all labels

Supported Printers
The following printer types support template-based configuration:
| Printer Type | Label Type | Default Folder |
|---|---|---|
| Thermo / Microwriter / PrintMate | Cassettes | C:\CassettePrinter |
| Avantik / Dakwe UV Laser Printer | Cassettes | C:\CassettePrinter |
| SlideMate | Slides | C:\SlidePrinter |
Note: Printers are automatically detected as file-based printers if their name contains
"thermo", "microwriter", "printmate", "slidemate", or "file". Additionally, the printer selection in the
Workstations app contains a checkbox that can be used to enable file printer functionality for any printer name.
